私人影院 Chorus - Requiem

March 24, 2024 (3:00 pm)

Location: 私人影院 Hall

Join the 私人影院 Chorus for our annual spring choral concert in University Hall on Sunday, March 24 at 3pm.

This year鈥檚 concert features the perennial favourite 鈥楻equiem鈥 by Gabriel Faur茅.

Faur茅's Requiem stands as a timeless masterpiece, offering solace and serenity in the face of mortality. Written between 1887 and 1890, this ethereal work departs from the grandiosity often associated with requiems, instead embracing a gentle and intimate approach to the text. Faur茅's Requiem is characterized by its sublime melodies, transparent textures, and profound sense of peace.

Throughout its history, Faur茅's Requiem has remained a beloved staple of the choral repertoire, cherished for its timeless beauty and universal message of hope. In this performance by the 私人影院 Chorus, under the direction of Michael Caines, the work's profound spirituality and exquisite craftsmanship will be brought to life with clarity and reverence, offering a transcendent musical experience for all who listen.

This performance will feature a new (2011) instrumental arrangement by David Hill. The orchestration has been reimagined to feature a small group of instrumentalists (Violin, Cello, Harp, and Organ). With Jennifer Jones (Violin), Norman Adams (Cello), Deanne van Rooyen (Harp), John Scott (Organ), and Acadia voice faculty member Michael Donovan, Baritone.

The concert will begin with a short set of songs all revolving around the theme of 鈥淗ome鈥 and will conclude with a performance of an arrangement of Robbie Smith鈥檚 song 鈥淥ne Storm from Home鈥濃 our musical contribution to the Robbie Songs Project honouring the life and work of Robbie Smith.
